Biography
Scott Nelson assists individuals and closely-held businesses with tax, business and all aspects of estate planning. He counsels business owners on business succession and coordinated estate planning, and advises families on transfer of assets and legacy planning during lifetime or upon death. His practice includes advice to trust and estate fiduciaries (trustees and executors), beneficiaries and charitable organizations. Scott is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, an officer of the MSBA Probate & Trust Law Council, past chair of its legislation committee, serves on planned giving committees, has served as a board member or officer for various professional and non-profit organizations, and is a frequent faculty member and guest speaker on estate and tax planning issues.
He publishes professional tax, estate planning, and business succession articles, and services clients in Minnesota and the Western Wisconsin region.
Scott is a Trustee of the MSBA LawPAC and a Board member of the MNCPA Political Action Committee, and an Assembly member of the MSBA. Scott recently retired as a Board member and Treasurer of the Minnesota Independent School Forum. He is Past President of the CPA Monday Tax Forum and Hennepin County Bar Association Tax Section, and former Board member of the MNCPA. He is a member of the MSBA and MSBA-Probate & Trust Section Legislation Committees, the MNCPA Government Relations Council, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Association of Attorney-CPAs, Minnesota Planned Giving Council, the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning, and the Twin Cities Financial and Estate Planning Council.
